Missed Connections

Have you ever checked out this site? It’s not nearly as popular as it should be. Reading through all the postings makes me lovesick and sets my heart all aflutter. If you think that’s perfectly lovely, then you will adore Sophie Blackall’s artistic renderings of such lost moments on her blog Missed Connections.
I experienced one myself this past Saturday while shopping for some wedding gifts with my sister:

I know, I know, I can’t draw to save my life. If only you knew how much time went into this :P

While shopping for yarn at a crafts store, I bumped into a display of fall-scented candles and it immediately set me to aching for autumn and cooler weather. I’m so excited, you really have no idea (:
A little while later I saw this:

And now I really want to make pretty pointless things with glass vases, sand, and random knick-knacks. Seriously.

I re-found this awesome t-shirt in my dresser last night before I fell into bed:

I am the thrift store queen.

That’s about all.

Tell me about your missed connections, hmm?

I Heart Red Velvet Art

As mentioned in a previous post, I’m an avid follower of Elsie Flannigan’s blog. The lovely lady owns and operates Red Velvet Art with a few friends, an online shop with a gallery currently undergoing a transformation and relocation in Springfield, Missouri.

Check out these cute offerings and then head on over to the site for more and purchasing (:

Cute cute cute :3
Once again, go here!

And on a sidenote, the man behind my favorite web comic Questionable Content, Jeph Jacques, is making this into an apron and I am so excited:

Don’t get it? Read the comic, or cheat.

I’ll be in Boise all next week!

The Daily Dish

I think I’m in love. Not with a person or an adorable puppy, but with Klari Reis’s set of 365 painted petri dishes. Reis draws inspiration for her work from science, and with this set she has emulated scenes from underneath the microscope using epoxy polymer and plexiglass petri dishes. Each dish is a beauty in itself, and together the effect is overwhelmingly fascinating. Reis is currently living and working in the San Francisco area alongside biotech companies. Check out these little beauties:

I meant to only include a few pieces, but go visit The Daily Dish blog and figure out how hard it is to choose only a couple favorites!

Also, check out Reis’s site. Her other artwork is just as amazing! I hope to buy some pieces by her one day (:

Now go fall in love!

I’ve recently developed a love for Alex Pardee’s artwork. I’d seen his work in several places and found it to be interesting and unique, but never made the connections between them all that led to the artist himself. Upon scouring the internetz, I’ve found that the reason I always stumble upon Pardee is because he is indeed EVERYWHERE. He designs The Used’s album artwork and has done designs for Hurley among many other accomplishments. Pardee cites influence for his work from graffiti and 80′s horror films, along with depression and a stint in a mental hospital. Pardee’s work has been described as a ‘circus sideshow cemetery.’ And plus, he hated the remake of Friday the 13th and full out publicly raged against it. And we all can admit that it was probably the biggest disappointment to hit the box office in 2008.

Here’s a sampling:
